Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about your Shinkansen journey
How far in advance can I book my tickets?
You can book Shinkansen tickets up to one month (30 days) before your intended departure date.
What is the difference between Reserved and Non-Reserved seats?
Reserved seats guarantee a specific seat in a designated car. Non-Reserved seats are first-come, first-served in specific cars and do not guarantee a seat during peak times.
How do I receive my physical tickets?
Depending on your selection, tickets can be delivered to your hotel in Japan, picked up at major stations via a QR code, or shipped to your home address internationally.
Can I use the Japan Rail Pass on the Nozomi or Mizuho trains?
Standard JR Passes do not cover Nozomi or Mizuho trains without a supplemental premium ticket. Our individual tickets, however, cover all train types.
Is there a luggage limit on the Shinkansen?
Passengers are allowed two pieces of luggage. Oversized baggage (total dimensions over 160cm) requires a specific 'Oversized Baggage Area' reservation.
What should I do if I miss my train?
If you miss a reserved train, you can usually board a Non-Reserved car on a subsequent train of the same type on the same day.
